Summer Blockbuster for Chicks: Sex and the City Movie (2008)

I realize now, that my summer blockbuster blogging feast today focused solely on movies I think will be huge. Around the dinner table tonight my family and I discussed chrisTHIS.com’s narrow-minded focus on movies and I was presented with their picks. BTW, we all agreed that Indiana Jones would trump all in its path. Damn skippy it will!

So here’s my lovely wife’s pick for what she is looking forward to seeing most. Based on the HBO dirty-mouth hit “Sex and the City”, the same “wild and crazy” kids get together to reprise their roles one last time, this time on the big screen. Sarah Jessica Parker (who I only know as Mrs. Ferris Bueller), Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Mr. Big himself, Chris Noth.

I admittedly did watch the HBO series a little bit (by proxy) and it was humorous at times, but this is just not one I’m looking forward to seeing, unless I can benefit somehow with a “hot date night” with Mrs. chrisTHIS.

“Sexy Time” starts May 30th, only in theaters.

Star Trek Movie (2008, er 2009) Trailer

There’s very little known about this upcoming movie which will star nobody from the original Star Trek cast, Star Trek Next Generation, or any other spin-offs. Even after the trailer you won’t be able to figure out what the deal is with this movie, other than there’s a new USS Enterprise, involves space somehow, and comes out in December 2008. But does it?

It actually doesn’t come out this year at all, in fact it comes out as a summer blockbuster on May 8, 2009 — well over a year from now. It chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk (portrayed by Chris Pine) and Kirk’s fellow USS Enterprise crew members. You may have seen Pine in… well… nothing that I have personally seen. Spock is played by Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana plays “Nero”, Winona Ryder portrays Amanda Grayson, Zoe Saldana is Uhura, Karl Urban plays McCoy, Bruce Greenwood is Christopher Pike, John Cho is Sulu, Simon Pegg is Scotty, Anton Yelchin is Chekov, and Leonard Nimoy plays a tribble. Ok, he doesn’t, but he does make some appearances in the movie, kind of how David Hasselhoff appeared in the recent Knight Rider movie on NBC and handed off KITT to “Mike Traceur”. I can only hope the new Enterprise has a LED light chaser like KITT. That would be cool.

chrisTHIS has the con, starting May 8, 2009, only in theaters.

Go Dr. Jones! Indiana Jones 4 (2008) Trailer

Movie site

I’m a huge HUGE fan of the Indiana Jones movies, although I figured three was going to do it for this movie series. Every time I saw Harrison Ford over the past few years, he looked a bit, well, ragged, in his old age. So I was shocked to hear that he’s at it again for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystall Skull.” Stars the aging Harrison Ford, of course, the youthful Shia LaBeouf, Karen Allen, Cate Blanchett, John Hurt, and some other jablonskies. There, I said jablonskies again.

Hits theaters May 22nd. Bring your fedoras and whips everyone!

Go Green! The Incredible Hulk (2008) Trailer

It’s Hulkamania time again! Yeaaah brother! Ok, different Hulk, but I had to say it. I think this summer blockbuster will trump “Speed Racer” just because it’s not so campy. Based on the original TV series starring Bill Bixby, physicist Bruce Banner takes flight in order to understand, and hopefully cure, the condition that turns him into a monster. Stars Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt, Robert Downey Jr, and some other jablonskies. Yes, I said jablonskies.

Hits theaters June 13th. Save our planet, Hulkster!

Another summer blockbuster is coming, staring Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, and Susan Sarandon. Directed by the Wachowski brothers, this looks visually stunning, a bit too goofy, and reminds me a lot of “Tron” for some odd reason.

Hits theaters May 9th. Christina Ricci looks hot.
