Well, I’m not, but one of my sites is!
My sister just called me… turns out her husband, Hank, was reading the New York Times today and came upon an article that mentions RUNNER+! Holy cow… I’m so stoked! I seriously never thought anything I’d do would wind up in the NYT!
I’m going to run out later and pick up a few copies of today’s paper. It’s in section C8. It’s also online:
“Some Essential Hardware (Even Away From the Street)”
The mention is at the bottom of the page:
Hot New Hit on iPod: Every Step You Take
One truism from business school is that you can manage only what you can measure. So it should not be surprising that managers carry that thought into their training regimen.
Nike and Apple make a special digital pedometer that tracks a runner’s footfalls and sends the data to an iPod that stores it for uploading when the user returns home. A runner can keep track of pace and distance over the years. The kit costs $29 if you have the iPod. The transmitter in the shoe adds 0.23 ounce to one foot while the receiver adds 0.12 ounce to the iPod. It interacts with iTunes version 6.0.5 or later.
Lisa Hufnagel, an auditor who travels extensively around New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, says she uses her iPod to track her distance and time while away from home. When she returns, Ms. Hufnagel posts her progress on Runnerplus.com, a social networking site for runners.

It finally rained here in San Diego… a substantial amount, anyway. Forgot what the stuff looked like. I moved from rain country 17 years ago (Seattle) and I was sick of it, but it’s nice to see it here (when we do get it!) in SoCal.
We have some minor flooding going on in our back yard, but other than that it’s not a huge deal. Glad we’re done putting all the lights up outside!

Apple puts their tiny “iSight” webcam into the monitor of every computer they make, except for those of us who have purchased a Mac Mini or a Mac Pro and have opted for a non-Apple monitor solution. Personally, I’m rocking a 27″ DELL Widescreen that does not have a built in camera. It has everything, but that! After much research and futzing around with the latest webcams, I found a few that work with Leopard.

Can you hear me now? This is my first podcast!
I hope to do some podcasting now that I have figured it out… audio as well as video. Stay tuned to this channel for more goofy stuff.
And yes, this even works on the iPhone, just click the Download link, since the cool little Flash audio player doesn’t work on iPhones.
There has to be an easier way to do audio podcasting, however. To make this one happen I had to record a new audio file, then convert it to MP3 using iTunes (not a simple task), then upload the MP3 file to christhis.com, then post a blog that references it. I have to believe that someone out there has a hosted solution that makes this process simple.

It’s that time of year again, and Mel and I will be spending the next two weekends putting up lights outside our house. If you haven’t visited my GriswoldHome.com website in a while, it’s worth checking out. Traffic to it is dead during 10 months of the year. Magically, during November and December, traffic flourishes!
One thing that always gets me in the holiday lighting mood is to watch the video of when Mel and I were on the local news. Our homeowner’s association sent us a nastygram, telling us to take down some of our lights.
Between that, eggnog latte’s from Starbucks, and watching Christmas movies like “Christmas Vacation” and Tim Allen’s “Santa Clause” series, it’s all I need to get in the mood.
