San Diego Fires

OMG what a crazy few days. First, the fire started Sunday in East County and we kept a close watch on it, knowing that I had a Monday morning flight with Frozone to go to Michigan for a two-day Ford truck media event. We made the decision early Monday morning to go ahead with my trip, as it looked like the fire was going to avoid our neighborhood. Unfortunately soon after I arrived in Michigan, Krissy called to let me know that mandatory evacuations were announced. Since we just went through this exercise 4 years ago during the Cedar fire, she knew exactly what to pack into the truck and took off to her Aunt’s house with the girls and the dogs.

About 24 hours later (Tuesday afternoon), my family was allowed back to our house. No damage in the immediate area, and surprisingly there wasn’t much more ash here than before I left. The fires are still burning all around San Diego County, but thankfully, none that are close by. Everyone that I know in San Diego is safe, including friends in Poway and Romona; two areas that were hit hard.  All San Diego schools are closed this week for obvious reasons, mainly because of the poor air quality.

On the way to Michigan (Monday morning, 8:30am) I took a few photos from my window seat on the plane (see below). On the way home tonight we could see fires still burning from the air, but nothing impressive enough for a photo.

Mac Week is not this week

Last week I thought I was set to make this week Mac Week for me. Problem is I didn’t get caught up over the weekend and October is quickly turning into a super busy month as usual, mainly due to my automotive interests.

For starters, this weekend I’ll be doing the vehicle graphics for our Truckblog project truck that is going to the SEMA Show at the end of the month. The owner is Brian Olhausen, who is taking his Ford F-250 Super Duty diesel truck to the show again with a lot of changes from last year. The vehicle graphics I’m doing this year for his truck are the most I’ve ever done for any project, so it should be interesting. You can see my design here in this mockup which is mainly used for sizing and layout estimates.

Then, later this month I’m going to Dearborn, MI with Frozone for a Ford Motor Company media event, highlighting the new Ford Super Duty truck. That will eat up two days. The following week I’ll be in Las Vegas all week long for the SEMA Show, which is my annual trip to the desert to cover the show with the Truckblog Crew.

So needless to say, Mac Week has been post-poned, mainly because I can’t factor in any loss of productivity in my schedule. I may take a day here or there to mess with it some more, but for the immediate future there is no Mac Week!

Fall cleaning

I have spent a good amount of today preparing stuff for eBay/Craig’s List… something I hate doing! So here are a few of the things I have for sale now in case anyone’s interested:

There’s more stuff I have been meaning to unload, but it takes so long to take pictures and start the listings! It’s no fun….

Total blog neglect

Here’s the problem I’ve been having lately.  There’s been so much going on I haven’t had time to sit down and blog about it.  Nor do I even know where to begin!  It’s just been real busy with a unexpected week-long Seattle trip, getting caught up with work and other things.  I’m slowly getting caught up and will start blogging like a madman once again.  Everything is going well with my brother-in-law, Hank, up in Seattle (he was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable form of blood cancer).  Things are going well with my family, and work too.  Just need to get caught up!

New design for new blog

As I mentioned yesterday, Chris Harrison was very kind to respond to my request for his WordPress template that he made it available this morning. I implemented it and it works great as you can see!

I am still tweaking a few things, adding a few things I used in my previous template, but all-in-all I’m very impressed with it. A new site design was necessary since I changed this site over from my mobile tech blog “FullyConverged.com” to become a more personal blog.
Thanks Chris! You rock dude…

Update: I think I’m done implementing Chris’ bitchen WordPress template now. I ended up having to sacrafice a few unnecessary plugins which is no huge deal.

New site design coming soon!

Chris Harrison’s blog templateWell I’m super stoked… the WordPress template I’m currently using worked great for my FullyConverged.com website, but for my personal blog I wanted something different. I found Chris Harrison’s blog through my RUNNER+ website (he wrote an incredible review for RUNNER+) and asked him if wouldn’t mind sharing his template with me. Initially he replied saying that he would give it some thought, so I was happy to return to his blog tonight to read that he had made the decision to make his “Effercio Blue 1.0” template available this weekend!

I’ve decided to turn my current design into a distributable theme for Wordpress. It’ll be available over the weekend after I clean up some of the rough edges.

I hope to be the first to use it, as it’s got an extremely clean look that I think will be perfect for my blog. Why don’t I just develop my own? I could, I suppose… but I have so many other projects that need more attention than my blog and I was hoping Chris would hook me up with his sooner or later. What a nice guy…

Stay tuned for a face lift!

Blog merger

What happened to Fully Converged? Simply put, I couldn’t maintain all the websites and blogs I own. It got too crazy, so I found myself concentrating on one site/blog for a while, then ignoring it for a while while I worked on my other sites. I couldn’t take it any longer!

So, FullyConverged.com has blended with my personal blog to become one place where I can blog to my heart’s content about anything AND everything. So if you were following Fully Converged, please stick around and watch for my random posts on mobile technology, and enjoy my new insane banter about my other hobbies and my family.

So without further adieu, I present to you my new personal blogspace… chrisTHIS!

Fully Converged Version 2.0

I don’t really know what version this is, but 2.0 sounds good enough. I just switched over from Blogger to WordPress on my own server to have more control over my blog. I’m so glad that I did… WordPress is pretty damn cool!  Their blog import tool imported all of my Blogger posts and comments in just a few seconds.  That saved me a ton of time.

With this change I’ll be posting more articles and product reviews which is something I never got around to doing as often as I wanted to with the old Blogger blog.

If you had subscribed to my RSS feed at my old blog, please be sure to subscribe to the new feed here!

Along with the server and software change comes a new site design (I hope you like it) and a much-needed update to the About page (I even through my mug shot up there so you can put a face to the blog). Click the link to the About page or click my mug to find out more about me and why I made this blog.

Thank you for reading!
Chris

Welcome to Fully Converged! This blog is for me to…

Welcome to Fully Converged! This blog is for me to post my daily thoughts and findings of my new Palm Treo 700w, my first fully converged device. I am in no way affiliated with any of the sites or companies I mention… these are my personal views and experiences.
