MOTORZ TV: How to upgrade or replace Mustang GT headlights

June 25th, 2009

You’d think something simple like removing headlights in a newer model vehicle would be pretty easy, right?  Nope… in a 2008 Ford Mustang GT you have to remove the whole front bumper!  In this episode, I show how it’s done on MOTORZ TV!

Backing up your stuff to external drives

April 29th, 2009

Backups are one thing most people neglect, until it’s too late.  I admit, I’ve been subject to drive failures in the past where I’ve lost important data that I could never get back.  I even had two separate computers lose a drive on the same day.  If only I was smarter about my backups.

These days hard drives are cheap, fast, and most feature FireWire 400, 800, and eSATA interfaces which makes data transfer incredibly fast.  Since I do a lot of video editing and have a ton of huge-megapixel photos, music and movies, I have to rely on external drives because there’s no way I can pack this much disk space into my MacBook Pro!

Site location & theme change

April 22nd, 2009

Mainly so that I can drop an extra web host that I don’t need to pay $20/mo for, I’ve moved chrisTHIS.com to my own server, moving from a Unix host to my Windows server.  This required a few tweaks to my site, hence the new theme.

chrisWHERE!?

March 24th, 2009

As you may have noticed, I have all but completely abandoned this blog in lieu of keeping friends and family updated through other social networking tools such as Twitter and Facebook.  From time to time I’ll hopefully update christhis.com with something useful!

If you’re wondering what I’ve been up to, well it’s been family, work, and my weekend passion of hosting and producing my own TV show called MOTORZ which can be seen on TiVo, iTunes, Zune, the motorz.tv website, and 20+ other places.  It’s an automotive DIY show and is doing extremely well!  A new episode comes out every two weeks. I love the educational/instructional format and evidently so do others!

So please check me out at MOTORZ TV!

Tripod alternatives for image stabilization

March 24th, 2008

This is a very interesting video that explains several techniques for image stabilization on your still camera or camcorder. They are all very inexpensive and their effectiveness varies.

The water bottle technique would be best if you are on the go (walking) but if you’re doing stationary shots, the string technique would best. Enjoy!

Here is another DIY camera stabilization solution that is a bit more involved.  It is a very inexpensive version of the Glidecam 2000, which is what we use for X7 Media for our videos using our Canon GL2 camcorder.
